Benefic

About Benefic

A media server for people who want their library on their own hardware — without the weekend of configuration that usually comes with it.

Benefic is a self-hosted streaming platform focused on media. Point it at the folder where your music, podcasts, audiobooks, and (eventually) video live; Benefic indexes your library and streams it directly to your devices over encrypted peer-to-peer WebRTC — no port forwarding, no cloud buckets, no middleman servers.

The goal is five minutes of setup, not five hours. If you've tried to self-host your library the traditional way, you know the drill: reverse proxies, DNS records, firewall rules, dynamic DNS, SSL certificates, mobile apps that can't find your server. Benefic handles the networking so you don't have to.

We're starting with audio. Our browser-based metadata editor is already public and free to use — it shares the same Rust tagging engine the streaming server will use to manage your library. Everything else — the server, the mobile client, the library management tools — is under active development.

We believe personal media libraries should stay personal. Benefic is designed so your files never leave hardware you control.
